Many Thanks from the Children in China

Pastor Doug,
It was my pleasure to become friends and work with Karen and Josh while they lived and served in China. The gave us 500 USD from your fellowship and explained the year of Jubilee. I was so amazed. After years in the church and now on the field, I've never of heard of a fellowship giving their people money to give away.
I just wanted to say thank you because of you we were blessed and our needs provided.....in order to help the orphans in China.

Why the Jubilee

On May 3rd, 2009, Hillcrest Church embarked on an effort to show sacrificial love to the community of Sioux Falls. Sioux Falls is a great community and it is known as being a community that cares about social justice and helping the under resourced. As a church, we believe that we have a responsibility to join in the work of loving and caring for this community. Jesus was about loving others and meeting physical needs as a way of demonstrating God’s love for all people. As a result of this understanding and responsibility, Hillcrest has taken a step, one we know is very small, to love this community by taking $100,000 and distributing it to our people in $500 increments and encouraging them to discover needs and meet those needs the way Jesus would. We have no idea what will happen as a result of this, but we do have hope.

This blog was created to chronicle the journey of the Jubilee. It is our hope that those at Hillcrest would be inspired to continue to be giving people to this great city when the $500 runs out and that others would be inspired to make a difference as a result of seeing what can happen when a small group of people sacrifice for the benefit of another. This is the example given to us by Jesus and it is the path we are trying to walk.

Please pray for us, encourage us and join us in the global work God has given for his church. There is no line between us, for we all serve the same Christ who gives freely to all. May God bless this community through the sacrifice of others and the works of love.
