  1. Dear Pastors,
I was a very lucky person today. A couple of friends stopped over with $100.00 that you gave out to help people. I can't tell you how helpful this was. I was able to get my heart meds and pain medicine. I've been out of work for about 6 months. What a wonderful gift! I can get a bus ticket too, so I can get to my appointments. Thank you so very much. This was a blessing. Peggy Zindel

  2. Unfortunately, my wife and I were not able to be at the service as we recently moved to California. But word travels fast and within a few days we heard what had happened at the church. We both feel so proud to have been "sent out" from a congregation that truly has a heart for God and for people. Thank you, Hillcrest, for listening to the voice of God and following his commands; through you God will bless countless individuals!

  3. I told you about giving my friend/bible study leader Bri $ for her trip to Ghana. She returned this last week, so I thought I would post the thank you card she sent.

"Thanks for being this love in my life!

Surely goodness and love will follow me (and you!) all the days of my life, and i will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6

THANK YOU! I wish you could have seen my face when I realized how much money I was holding, ask Rick (he's our college pastor who i asked to give her the gift so it would be anonymous), my hands were shaking! You have blessed me in an enormous way, and not just financially. It is encouraging to think that someone believes in you and your ministry enough to support you like this. You have refreshed me and reminded me of how much of an impact people can have when they allow the Lord to use hem. Your support will be passed on as my team and I join Christ's work in Ghana!"

  4. Dear Pastors, church staff, & congregation:

We weren't sure which pastor to address that came up with this wonderful idea, and since usually things like this come together because of several people involved, this is addressed to all who need to hear how grateful we are!!

A while ago, when you gave out money to your congregation members, it was probably an exciting time, wondering what people would choose to do with their part. I have thought long and hard since I heard you did this, about what I would do, and it would be a very tough decision, since there seems to be so many who have so little.

Two of your members, I have come to know over the last several months, and they are one of the nicest, kind-hearted couple I know. I knew they had gotten this money after the wife had told me about it. She was struggling with whom to help, what would best serve the Lord, her community, and someone in need. They talked over several options. Little did I know at the time, that our family was the one they thought of helping.

We are not what most people would consider you typical "in need" family. We are fortunate enough to have a roof over our heads, vehicles that help us get where we need to go, adequate food, I have a great job, etc. But, last fall, our world changed when my husband was let go from his job. He could only find part-time work for about 2 months. Then, when he did find full-time employment, he went through training for about 3 1/2 months, then was told he was not being advanced out of his training class, but that he was being let go. He struggled again to find employment, but thankfully found at least a temporary, seasonal job to get us through the next 6-9 months. He still also works his part-time joy on the weekends.

Prior to all of this, my husband was making amost double what he is now, and we were finally able to purchase our first house after 10 years together. Our kids finally had someplace they could call theirs, a home. When he lost his job, we began to fall behind on our mortgage, along with all of our other bills. I have discussed with everyone around me how important it is to us to keep our home, along with how hard it has been to keep up with even basic things (like food for our growing son who eats more than the other 3 of us combined!)

Because of your church's generosity and the thoughtfulness of these 2 wonderful people, we were given a gift of $500. That went a long way toward helping us make that month's mortgage payment and still be able to get groceries for that month. What a wonderful "gift" we were given! (We still have a long way to go to get caught up and keep our house, but through the generosity and prayers, family and friends, and our hard work, we will make it!)

I wanted to write this to thank your church for this wonderful gift, as well as offer our sincerest thanks to the couple who passed it on to us, even with so many others who may have needed it "more." We have been truly blessed, and want you to know that we sincerely plan on "paying it forward" someday when we are in a position to again. Thank again!

  5. I received a very nice letter from the Food Pantry thanking me for the $500.00. I called them and told them how I had received the money to donate. Matt Gassen was full of "thank you's" and so very glad that I chose the Food Pantry to receive the money.

  6. Dear Members of Hillcrest Church,

Recently I received a gift from the community of Hillcrest Church, sharing with me the love of Jesus. I am truly so very grateful that Jesus is and always will be in my heart.

On April 1 of this year, I had major surgery, and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I started chemotherapy on April 30. The medical bills can be quite overwhelming, and I have only been okayed to work 12 hrs. a week for the past month.

Again, I am so grateful for this gift of Jesus' love. It will help me so much! God bless you.

    Sincerely,
    Mary Menill

  7. Dear Shelly,

I must share with you that Jesus and his great love is in my heart everyday. He has never left me and never will. I truly understand that this gift to me is a sign of Jesus' love. His love most surely resides at Hillcrest Church and in Shelly.

Shelly, I must also share with you since April 1st (the day of my surgery) I have gotten teary eyed on more than one occasion, but seem to be able to hold it together. When I opened, read, and received all the love in this gift to me, it was quite overwhelming. I was overcome emotionally, and I want you to know how grateful I am.

Yes, keeping up with medical bills is a challenge. I was okayed by Employee Health, a month ago, to return to work 12 hours a week. So you are right I haven't been able to work much.

Shelly, this will help me so much! I hope to continue to get stronger every day, and make a full recovery. I am hoping to be able to work more in the near future. I have had my 6th chemotherapy treatment. I will keep you updated in my recovery. God bless you for your kindness, and I am so very grateful that Jesus sent you to me.

    Thank you so much, Mary
